Migraines may hamper kids' school performance | Essentials

Migraines may hamper kids' school performance

Excerpt:

Children with migraine headaches may do worse in school than other students, a new study suggests. Kids in the study who suffered episodic migraines (i.e., migraines occurring fewer than 14 days each month) were 1. 3 times more likely perform below average in school, compared to kids who didn't have any type of headache.  And kids with chronic migraines (i.e., migraines occurring 15 or more days each month) were 1. 6 times more likely to perform below average in school, compared to kids without headaches. "For years, we've had few studies that have linked the symptoms of migraines to the burden on children and families," said Dr. Lenora Lehwald, a neurologist at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Studies such as this one may help get "buy-in" from schools in helping kids who suffer migraines get prompt treatment, she said.

  • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.
